Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Starways Meals meal-planning service, including the website at starways.app, the Starways Meals mobile application, the Starways Meals SMS text-messaging service, and our assistant's email address (together, the "Service"), operated by Starways LLC ("Starways," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The service
Starways Meals helps you plan meals and build grocery lists, including through an assistant you can reach by text message or email. She is called Jane by default, and your household can rename her. The assistant is automated and powered by artificial intelligence: its responses are generated by software and, like any AI system, may contain errors or inaccuracies. It can also send you reminders you ask for and hand your grocery list off to a participating store. Features may change over time as we improve the Service.
Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your phone and your account secure, and to be responsible for activity that happens under your account. Signing in uses a one-time code sent to your mobile number, so keeping control of that number matters — if you give up a number, remove it from your household first. You may invite household members to share meals and lists; you are responsible for the invitations you send, and members you invite can see and change your household's shared meals, plans, lists, and food rules.
Cost
Starways Meals is currently free to use. Some things are limited while it is free — for example, how many times in a week the assistant will come up with a fresh set of meal ideas for you.
We expect to offer paid plans in the future. We do not collect payment information of any kind today. If we introduce paid plans, we will publish the plans and prices beforehand, you will be asked to affirmatively subscribe, and no charge will be made without your consent. Any purchase made through a mobile app store will be billed and managed by that store under its own terms, including its rules for renewal, cancellation, and refunds.
Third-party services
Some features send your information to companies we do not control, at your request. When you send your grocery list to a store, we transmit your item names to that store's service. If you have connected an account for that store, we also add the items we can match to your cart there. Matching is best-effort and may be wrong or incomplete, so review any cart before you check out. When you share a recipe link, we request that page from the site that hosts it.
Those companies operate under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their services, their prices, their product availability, or what they do with information they receive. A connection you authorize can be disconnected at any time from the Grocery List tab.
Text-messaging terms
If you opt in to text messages, you agree to receive recurring automated messages from Starways Meals as described in our Privacy Policy. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel and HELP for help. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you provide: your meals, food rules, photos, lists, recipe links, and the messages and emails you send our assistant. You grant Starways a limited license to use that content as needed to operate and provide the Service to you and your household — for example, processing a photo you send to identify a meal, fetching a recipe link you share, or sending your messages to our AI provider so the assistant can answer. You are responsible for the content you submit and confirm you have the right to share it, including any recipe or photo you did not create yourself.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to disrupt it, access it without authorization, reverse-engineer it, use it to violate any law, or use it to send unlawful or unsolicited messages.
Food, allergies, and your safety
Starways Meals provides meal suggestions and grocery lists for general convenience only. It is not medical, nutritional, or dietary advice, and it is not a substitute for professional guidance. Starways does not guarantee that any suggested meal is safe for any particular diet, allergy, intolerance, or health condition.
Starways Meals is a planning tool, not a food producer, seller, or handler. Suggestions generated by the Service — including meal ideas, ingredients, grocery items, and meals or ingredients identified from photos you send — are produced by automated AI systems and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Starways does not provide food-safety guidance: it does not verify the safe handling, preparation, cooking time or temperature, storage, or freshness of any food, and suggested meals may involve ingredients (such as meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, or unpasteurized products) that are unsafe if mishandled or undercooked.
You are responsible for checking ingredients and product labels, for confirming that any meal is appropriate for you and your household (especially where allergies or medical needs are involved), and for safely selecting, storing, preparing, and cooking all food. You assume all risk associated with preparing and consuming any meal planned or suggested through the Service.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Starways will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Starways LLC and its owners, employees, and agents from and against claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Service, the content you submit, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time — see Delete Your Data for how, and for exactly what each option removes. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a way that could harm Starways or others.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new effective date, and your continued use of the Service means you accept the changes.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that is not subject to arbitration under the section below will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
Dispute resolution: binding arbitration and class-action waiver
Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights. You and Starways agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court, except that (a) either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and (b) either party may seek injunctive relief in court for infringement or misuse of intellectual property. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this agreement to arbitrate.
Class-action waiver. You and Starways each waive the right to a trial by jury and agree that disputes may be brought only on an individual basis — not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative proceeding.
Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@starwaysapps.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, stating your name, your phone number, and that you are opting out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms.
General
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will stay in full effect. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Starways regarding the Service. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
